Setting Up Utilities:
1. Coordinate with your roommates who’s name the utilities will go in.
2. Contact the utility companies and get everything set up.
3. If gas service has been shut off wait for the gas company to unlock the meter.
4. Turn on the gas at the meter if needed.
5. Light the pilot lights on furnace and water heater if needed.

Helpful Hints:
– Schedule the utilities to turn on a week early to reduce the turn on fee with the utility companies.
– If you have a contract for Brownstone Condos or University Studio Condos you do not need to set up the gas.
– Stone Properties will be happy to turn on your gas meter and light your pilot light for a fee if you do not feel comfortable doing it yourself. Call for current pricing.
– Sign a utility agreement with your roommates to ensure everyone pays their share. We also suggest everyone write a check to the utility company and that you mail all checks to the company to ensure payment. Another way would be to make sure you have collected all monies before sending one check to the company.
– If the utility holder moves out make sure to switch them into a roommates name to avoid any shut offs.
